Van Build Series: Introduction

van-introduction
Welcome to our van build series. In this series, we share our van build story; from our purchase in Salt Lake City, UT to where we are today. Our goal is to inspire you through our experience, and if we can, provide some helpful information to you along the way.

One of our first observations during this process, is the budget, requirements, and vision are unique for each build. Some vans are built for boon docking, while others are built for weekend camping at an RV site; some have indoor showers, others have external showers or no showers at all; some have bench seats that convert into a bed and others have a fixed bed above a garage; some are converted for less than $5000, while others cost more than $30,000 to convert.

The second thing we noticed, is the Internet is full of information on how to build a van. Enthusiastic do-it-yourselfers can purchase layout and build guides, electrical and plumbing designs, and watch, literally, hundreds and hundreds of hours of installation videos for roof fans, heaters, after market windows, bathrooms, refrigerators, solar panels, as well as, many other things people put in their vans.

In light of this, our series won’t be the typical, step-by-step, “how to build” a van, tutorial series. We feel there is so much quality information  already out there today, that another instructional video on how to install a MaxxAir fan just isn’t needed. Instead, we thought we would walk you through our build, explore the thought process behind some of our decisions, offer some insights into things we may do different next time, and of course, provide a list of the materials we used.

In the coming weeks we’ll be posting new articles. If you’re interested in any particular subject, just let us know and we’ll post articles in those sections first.
